Centenary dinner and prize presentation

OLD PORTLIANS CYCLING CLUB

1921 – 2021

The club held its 100^th anniversary dinner on Friday 12 November 2021 at the Bromley Court Hotel.

We were very pleased to be able to hold this event given the restrictions that had been in place over the past two years and we had great support with over 80 guests drawn from club members past and present as well as good friends from other clubs in the South East.

The Hotel did a great job for us at quite short notice as we had been let down by our previously booked venue which closed at short notice causing considerable stress to the organiser (me!).

However, all was well in the end and the evening was a great success.

We were pleased to have as our guest speaker Brian Smith, the cycling commentator ( Eurosport) and former professional rider (UK National Champion) and team manager. Brian gave us some very interesting insights into his long and successful career in professional cycling.

My thanks to Brian and all who made the evening a great success to mark our 100^th anniversary.

A summary of the awards made at the dinner is attached. We did our best to run a full programme of races in 2021 but inevitably a number of planned events were cancelled so we hope 2022 will give us more opportunities for organised events be that racing or sportives.
